Fan Cut
The fan is one of the stranger side stones, with a flat top surrounded by triangular sides. Its bottom is curved, much like the spread of an open lady’s fan.
The fan cut is similar to a shield cut in shape, but instead of a long flat base that is worked up to, it has the appearance of a triangle with one side being curved.
Fan cut diamonds are fairly rare, but they are sometimes used for their unique shape to come together and create the illusion of a single larger round diamond. The can also make for great accent stones in necklaces or earrings.
